American brigade headquarters will be in Poland
Staying in Ciechanów the Polish Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak announced that in this city the headquarters of an American brigade will stationed.
As it was explained by the Minister Siemoniak, the United States decided to choose Ciechanów for a place of quartering of the headquarters of their brigade. In this city, the American soldiers will protect the brigade's functioning. The Minister added that "we wanted the North-East Poland to be among the US locations".
The American side is interested in nearly 50 buildings in an area of approximately 24 hectares. To the area of former barracks of the Polish Army in Ciechanów (disbanded 1st Artillery Regiment) the Americans will arrive in 2016. They are after the first talks with the local companies that will adapt buildings and the land for their own needs. The whole area will not be for the US troops. Poland has decided to retain several hectares of barracks for its own needs.
Ciechanów is one of the five locations specified by the Polish side and chosen by the Americans for the creation of military formations. The other locations are Lask, Drawsko Pomorskie, Skwierzyna and Choszczno. The United States investments are fulfilled from the European Reassurance Initiative (ERI) program, proposed by the US President in Warsaw last year. The Americans, among other things, will invest 20 million USD in Drawsko Pomorskie. At the air base in Lask the only airport runway will be extended for 500 metres.
As a part of the financing from the ERI program in Europe (Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Germany and possibly Hungary) the American heavy brigade with 1,200 vehicles, including 245 M1 Abrams tanks, M2 Bradley IFV and M109 howitzers will be disposed.
